India A Growing Homeland Security Market?
India has a growing homeland security market, partly as a result of the terrorist's attacks in Mumbai, November 2008. Homeland Security India is the only exhibition to meet senior decision makers looking to procure homeland security products.
- The demand for security equipment has gone up manifold in recent times, especially after the recent attack on Mumbai. The estimate is that India will be investing $12.3 billion into the private security industry by 2016
- Airport security is projected at over $3.2 billion by 2016 at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5 per cent
- Market earned revenues of $800 million in 2007 and estimates this to reach over $1 billion in 2016
- This year the Home Ministry has allocated over $100 million for city surveillance projects and $50 million in equipment for detecting arms and ammunition in containers
- The Maharashtra Government has already spent $63.83 million and is planning many more projects to enhance the State's security
- India 's Union Home Minister, P. Chidambaram has reconfirmed India's commitment to increase its Homeland Security budget by a massive 35% to over $29.52 Billion in 2009-10
- Government plans 20 anti-terror schools
- Delhi Police Commissioner announced a budget of $84.7 million for implementing the integrated security systems project for the Commonwealth Games
